Japanese weaves are historically used in armor in samurai armor, similar to chainmail's use in europe, although the weave itself is structurally different. That structure is so basic though that it also forms the basis of many modern weaves and is even, tecnically, the family some of the most rudementary chain weaves fall into, although the family differences are less meaningful in the very simple weaves and are more a matter of interpritation.
